ssh question - keep transfer going after quitting ssh connection

Device 1 - Windows 8.1 PC
Device 2 - NAS device with only smb as a protocol usable to transfer directly
Device 3 - NAS device based on debian

I use Software app known as "putty" to ssh into Device 3 from Device 1 - no problem
I then use
Code:
smbget -R smb://Device 2
- starting transfer from device 2 to Device 3

At this point am I transferring between device two and three without device 3???

I tried to terminate the ssh link by exiting putty but it kills the transfer also.

Can I accomplish this transfer and not have to leave the ssh connection open??
If so, is there a way to go back and view the status of the transfer??
Or is there a another way to get data from device 1 to device 2 I may have missed??

Thanks in advance - If this question should be moved to another area please note..

I think you are looking for the command nohup.
