SSH from outside LAN - Fedora Core 2

I am trying to get SSH working from outside my LAN. I have a small LAN of three computers behind a Netgear DG814 switch/router.
I have SSH running on this computer (Fedora Core 2). I can SSH in to it from the other computers (Windows XP) on the network, that works fine. I have also set up port forwarding of port 22 to this computer in my router. Doing a ShieldsUp! test confirms that port 22 is open, and I can ping my external ip address no problems.
When I try to SSH in to my computer using the external ip address I get the following:

[robbie@localhost robbie]$ ssh 217.XXX.XX.XX
ssh: connect to host 217.XXX.XX.XX port 22: Connection refused

Any idea what I can do?

Does the location you are initiating the location from block outgoing requests to port 22?
