I can not tell if the problem is the server or the client. Are you sure you are using the correct IP address for the debian serverbox?

Yes, I am sure. I can tell from the output of 'ifconfig' on the PC and 'arp -a' on the router.

I believe the problem is in the PC turned into router, since everything works fine on the TP-Link router. Maybe some routing is not right. I have tried disabling the firewall completely, to no avail. Maybe I need some kind of forwarding rule.

If it was the router then why does the linux box connect to the tablet?
