squid + w2k

First of all - sorry if this has been answered elsewhere, but I can't seem to find an answer (I did look) and the few things that were related to what I want to do were too confusingly written on the web to be of much help.

I want to get squid up and then only allow users that have authenticated through a w2k domain controller to be allowed access to various sites. I want these access lists to vary depending on groups that the users belong to in the domain. I also want all the activity logged by user.

A lot of I wants. How exactly would I go about doing this (I would imagine it's possible...). I've never configured Squid before, so I thought it would be better to get an idea of what I am getting into before I even try all of this. I'm more or less looking for a more general description of things I would need to do in getting it set up. Thanks a million...

Might want to check with the masters of this program,

http://www.squid-cache.org/

But I think this program is mainly used a proxy to help protect stuff that you have on the internet.

Good Luck,

smb_auth will do this but not perfect..

Hi kmart,

"I want to get squid up and then only allow users that have authenticated through a w2k domain controller to be allowed access to various sites."
-- Squid + smb_auth will do this just fine.

"I want these access lists to vary depending on groups that the users belong to in the domain. I also want all the activity logged by user."
-- Has anyone else tried this?

Changing permissions on who has Internet acces thru proxy is as easy as changing permissions on a file on the DCs.

Granting/Revoking read access to that user or group blocks/unblocks their proxy authorisation.

But.. it has a few problems..
