generally speaking, yes (for basic usage)... but keep in mind that there's a LOT of stuff that can't be proxied... you should consider using a mixture of both squid and ip masquerading, by installing squid in transparent mode, for example... of course there's also times when it's better to ONLY use a proxy and do absoloutely no NATing, but i'm not sure what your situation is like...

my situation sis very simple.. i am putting up a gateway which will connect my lan to another lan.. basically 172.x.x.x and 192.x.x.x. Now 192.x.x.x is my ISP.
i wnat to give internet access to my LAN (172.x.x.x) through my ISP. This is possible if i use IP Masquerading. I want to know whether i can use the Squid for the same purpose i.e. to give internet access to my LAN.
regards

if by "internet access" you mean web surfing, email, etc. then yes, squid will be able to do that... but if your main concern is sharing the connection (and NOT saving bandwidth / increasing speed) then it would be much simpler to do NAT instead of using squid...
keep in mind that they do not work the same way... when you do NAT, the packets are passed right through the firewall/router without any connection being established with the firewall/router... with squid, however, the clients connect to the squid box, and then the squid box connects to the web server, etc.
