step 1 = patience. squid is a giant, many-tentacled beast!

I think I saw the same error about two weeks ago. I finally got my squid properly sauteed last weekend, but it was not simple, or easy!

With the message you posted of an error on line 162, the first question is: what's on line 162 of your squid.conf file?

Also, how is your computer acquiring its IP address? I suspect a conflict with your dhcpd.conf file or some other part of network address acquisition.

HTH & best of luck,
