Sporadic DNS issues Ubuntu Mate 16.04 LTS

Hi, in the past month or so I've started experiencing extremely frustrating DNS issues, whereby I often see a 'connecting message in the browser for 10 -30 seconds before a site loads, and also often have connection timeouts.

After much googling I tried this suggestion
Quote:
Remove (or comment out) the below line from /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf:
dns=dnsmasq
but it has made no difference.

It is definitely something related to my Ubuntu install because another PC running windows on the same network has zero issues.

Can anyone offer me either a solution or some good troubleshooting steps?

Have you tried using a different browser?

If you can 'catch it' fast enough, see if the system, via CLI, can reach the hostname
(after the http:// and before the /<page>),
using ping -c 2 and maybe traceroute and/or dig/nslookup
You might also try a wget on the whole URL/link.
This would help differentiate browser vs OS vs internet problem.
