somewhat modern network project

hi
i was just thinking about how to connect all the stuff in a network to create a somewhat modern network... which also includes fibre-optics, layer3 switches, wifi routers, a cache/proxy server and voip phones....

pic - http://i.imagebanana.com/img/jzytq02w/network.jpg

so some questions arised...
1) what device connects the fibre with the 2 switches?
2) does the proxy even work over that?... the server would need 2 network cards and some raid array for fast access?
3) are there any good programs to draw a proper diagram?

i was also thinking of giving the voip subnet only 16 addresses, use 10.0.x.x as the network address and use linux on all the computers... linux mint perhaps?
4) so perhaps it would be possible to install somekind of central managing(ldap?) server on the cache server also? to install all the necessary applications on all the hosts... like microsoft sms/sccm

thanks

You seem to be jumbling everything into one big heap, if you separate it out you'll find it easier to determine the answers

- physical network topology
- logical network topology
- IP design
- routing protocol/s
- VOIP + QOS design
- network security/border design
- proxy/cache server

Design from the ground up but keep the upper layer requirements in mind

well, maybe some good program will help with the first 6 points? i'm not even sure where to connect the proxy... maybe even make only 1 part of the network go through it and the rest of it directly through a router to make it more complicated? -.-
