NIS or LDAP? some kinda of domain? i dunno HELP!!

I just edited the post, see my last post please :-) and thanks !

ok i switch from windows years ago ( so long that i recently found out there is 2003 server lol )
but yea SO
what is a domain in linux?
like not .cox.net but like logon sever so that user "bob" on computer "raid" is the same bob on computer "giger"
what software do i use? i have never tried this before or anything like it but i've made all but one of my pcs diskless and i'd like them to work better on the NFS and i'd just like to actully have system.

so what do i do? i don't even have an idea where to start i've never tried anything like this ( user's groups )i'm guessing my server has to become some kind of logon server but how?

thanks dood/doodets

Look into a few things like "LDAP" (similar to the MS "Active Directory" concept) and "YP" (short for yellowpages, which is the centralized user/group account system similar to the MS "domain" concept). Google or search around for threads here and see if you can find a couple good HOWTO's or etc to read up about it.

thanks for the respones.... while installing LDAP which looks neat, but also cumbersom for my task... i found NIS ? which i guessing is the old school linux/unix way... ( much like NFS compared to SAMBA ) so a new question .... NIS or LDAP ????
all i want is for people to log on any pc and have the same rights on my file ( NFS ) server to there files.
