socks proxy - env variable
 

Hi,
I use a socks proxy to access any http page [and theoretically ftp as well, although that's blocked, this is my school]. Is there a env variable that I can set to automatically do this, something like

export HTTP_PROXY="172.16.0.1:8080"

so that programs such as lynx will know about this. Any help here much apprecaited,

PS - what's support for ntlm auth / m$ proxies like in linux?

I'd like to know if there is, too, and if not, how to run shell commands through a SOCKS proxy.
