snmp on slackware 10.2
Hello people,
I have some problems with met net-snmp program
the version i use is 5.2.1.2.
The following accors, i made a snmpd.conf and put it in de right
directory, example : /usr/share/snmp/snmpd.conf
if i start snmpd on the following #snmpd /usr/share/snmpd.conf
then i get nothing strange in the snmpd.log but when i go back to
the directory where snmpd.conf is then the file is renamed as a
socket file into snmpd.conf= but the daemon is running.
so if i start a snmpwalk on the following maner:
root@slacky:/# snmpwalk -v 1 -c public localhost
Timeout: No Response from localhost
I also turned a snmp daemon on in my thomson speedtouch 510 modem, and this works perfect if i put the same command as above and change localhost into the ip of my modem then i`ll get the information that i want and put it with a crontab into mrtg, and this works fine.
So what i want to know is: why do i have problems??? I have read the man page over and over again but i can come out of it.
does anyone have a manual with steps that i can use???
Thanks a lot.
