SMTP connections very slow

I have just outsourced my email services to Google by making use of their google applets.

www.google.com/a/

Before we outsourced our email services, the email server was hosted at our site and users could send receive email very quickly.

Every since we started using google's email servers for our email services, users are complaining about very slow connections specially while sending email. it seems that SMTP connections to send email through smtp.gmail.com is very slow.

I am using a 512 Kbps ADSL connection for my internet.

A cisco PIX firewall is directly connected to the ISP router.

Please suggest ways of how i can improve the smtp connectivity to smtp.gmail.com server?

I don't think you can improve SMTP performance under these circumstances.

For whatever reason, you outsourced your email to google.com, probably the bussiest .com on Earth. You are competing for bandwidth against everyone else using Google.
