SMTP and POP3 in RH Linux9

can anyone tell me how to open smtp and pop3 ports in RH linux so that my clients can access mails via outlook.Either we have to add some lines in squid or editing of firewall(iptables). plz tell me about it.

Although i m not clear what r u asking. But u can check logon ur server's smtp and pop3 port with follwoing command

open a consol:

telnet x.x.x.x 25 (for smtp)
telnet x.x.x.x 110 (for pop3)

Hi

I did this by creating an account on Linux for each email user.

Then, I configured sendmail using sendmail.cf and changed the DaemonPortOptions line to the IP adress of my Linux machine.

I then restarted sendmail.

I then downloaded and installed qpopper for pop3 serving, made an xinetd entry for it (Rh 9 linux).

I had my Windows users configure their outlooks so that both POP3 and SMTP in one of their accounts pointed to the IP of the Linux machine.
