Floppy here
I've been using Smoothwall now for about
3 or 4 months
Yes Smoothwall will act as a DHCP and DNS Server
I just checked mine ( as I'm writing this )
and they are both working OK
You will need a NIC for your internet connection
another NIC for your network hub
and another NIC if you want a web server on a separate computer
However Smoothwall won't let you have 2 NICs
for your internal network
Smoothwall will only let you have 1 NIC for
each of your Red, Orange and Green zones
I doubt very much if you could install KDE on a Smoothwall
Its probably possible but not worth the hassle
to do properly
Smoothwall is maintained from a "safe" computer
in your green zone
There is plenty of documentation at the smoothwall site
read very carefully
they also have a forum at
http://community.smoothwall.org/forum/index
It is a very good out-of-the-box firewall
but it does have some issues
updating is a problem that regularly comes up in the forums
mine refuses to update and I dont know why
I'll just wait for version 2.1 or something
and just reload over the top
any other questions just ask
