Smooth Wall trouble
I’ve built a Smooth Wall box and I can’t get it to connect to the web. I can see the Smooth Wall box is receiving an IP from my ISP via DHCP. I’m wondering if I have left out a step or forgot to configure something?
P233 w/32meg 2.1gig.
Smooth Wall 2.0 Mallard beta with both Green and Red Nics configured.
I’m able to get into the Smooth Wall manager from a networked laptop (Win98Se) and look at the Smooth Wall menu.
I have a broadband cable connection (Rogers - was @home / 1.5mpbs) which I have hooked up to my Red Nic. I have released my IP from my ISP and power down my LAN city modem (model LCPPET-3) for 30 seconds. Then I plug the power into the modem and connect the cable to the powerless Smooth Wall box. I wait for the modem to clear itself (2 green lights on up top) then fire up the Smooth Wall box. After the Smooth Wall box loads up (I hear the start-up beeps) I try to access the web with no success.
In the Smooth Wall menu I’m able to see under ‘About your smoothie’ in the status box that Green NIC (eth0 inet addr: 192.168.1.1/ bcast:192.168.1.255/ smask 255.255.255.0/ I/O: 10base 0x6300) and Red NIC (eth1 inet addr: 24.112.***.***/ bcast:24.112.***.***/ smask 255.255.254.0/ I/O: 11base 0x6200).
The cable from the modem to the Red Nic is S-Thru STP CAT5.
The cable from the Green Nic to my networked laptop is cross over STP CAT5.
