smbmount works but I get permission denied when access the drive

I'm trying to mount a windows domain share on my Mandrake 10.1. I can do it without trouble this way:

mount -t smbfs -o username=jeickal,workgroup=NTDOMAIN //ntserver/service$ /mnt/service

I'm prompt for my password, and then I see the icon appearing on my desktop. Looks good

Now when I try accessing the share drive with a simple "ls" for ex:
ls -l /mnt/service
I get:
ls: /mnt/service: Permission denied

This one is also interesting:
df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda5 6.9G 2.5G 4.1G 39% /
/dev/hda6 22G 4.5G 17G 22% /home
df: `/mnt/service': Permission denied

Doing this as root won't help.

This is what I get in /var/log/messages:
Dec 17 17:57:38 mypc mount.smbfs[16368]: [2004/12/17 17:57:38, 0] client/smbmount.c:send_fs_socket(409)
Dec 17 17:57:38 mypc mount.smbfs[16368]: mount.smbfs: entering daemon mode for service \\ntserver\service$, pid=16368

I'm sure I know what I'm doing since it works from a redhat 9.0 box that I also have. I can browse the share read-write on it without trouble. I ended up trying on another PC with Suse 9.,1 same problem then with Mandrake
Could this be a Kernel version 2.6 problem? Here are the version I'm using
Mandrake 2.6.8.1-12
Suse 2.6.5-7
RedHat 2.4.20-8

Any suggestion will be welcome
