Recently I've been getting strange samba errors logged. For example:
smbd/service.c:set_current_service(56) chdir (/home/aluser) failed : 380 Time(s)
These errors do not result in any visible bugs (the user named can still see their own home directory, does not have any known access problems) other than the error messages themselves.
These errors only occur for a small set of users, who do not appear to have anything in common with each other. Except that they are mostly tall people, but I think that's an unrelated issue
. The machines that exhibit this behaviour are running Red Hat's package of samba-3.0.2-6.3E on Red Hat Enterprise Server 3, but I understand people have seen this on Fedora also.
Does anyone know anything about these errors? If you google portions of the error message, you get hits on various samba lists with people saying "Hey, I get these errors" and other people saying "me too!" but no responses from the samba team.
Thanks in advance for any insight or suggestions! My log files are already too full for me to want to ignore this.
[Bump!]
