What happens when you try to get into the Linux machine? How are you trying to access the machine? What error messages do you get? Workgroup or domain? Firewall turned on or off?

i am using a workgroup and i am trying to connect using my mac os x. i am getting error code -43. Dont know what that means. I can see what folders are shared i pick the folder to connect to then it gives me the above error. I am not sure what i am doing wrong. i have my firewall turned off.

did you create the samba users on the nix box yet? remember this isn't the same as doing a useradd in shell to create a local nix user

Locate your /etc/samba/smb.conf and open it, it is not hard to understand how it works by following the examples in this file.
