I'm connected to a huge network in my campus, everybody is shareing files. My roommate's pc is connected to this net through my rh7.2 linuxbox. Can he se all the files shared by others? if yes how? I don't mind if you just simply give me a link so i can document myself! thanx

1) Check if samba or MS File sharing is running on the systems.
2) Check if the correct rules for Netbios protocol is enable and open =
inside your firewall on both sides.
3) Check your log file (/var/log/messages) for possible information =
about where something fail with SMB.

You could also just buy a hub, connect your connection into the hub instead of your machine, then connect both your computers to the hub. I'd imagine that would work. I don't think ethernet hubs are much money either...

Figure out who the wins server is on the network, then configure nmbd in samba to take it's cue from that. Next configure roomies pc to either use you as a wins server or use the neworks winsserve. Most networks have several, so they can get confused.
