smb.conf example
Hi !
I install RH8, i want share it with 20 W9x/xp/2k machines, i am newbie ...so plz help me ... i need a smb.conf example for simple sharing files .. no printer only read/write data...without user and password... or where i can find any info...

or get the redhat-config-samba package for RHL 9 (works fine on RHL 8).

Hi Kid,
use this in smb.conf
[myshare]
comment = Krishna's share
path = /var/www/html/mail (Your path)
public = yes
writable = no
browsable = yes
create mask = 0765
Add any unix user and then create a samba account
smbadduser unixuser:unixuser
then,
smbpasswd unixuser
and then try to connect!

For sharing folder
[profiles]
path = /home/samba/profiles
read only = No
create mask = 0600
directory mask = 0700
Also set the password.
# /usr/bin/smbpasswd -a root password
