Small Office Network Advice

Hi Peeps,
I have the opportunity to set up this small office network for a friend.
See Attachment

He has two offices and will need to access the Ubuntu Linux server over the net from one of them.
He wants to host his own website and will require file sharing (Samba) and access a database with "FrontDesk" office software on the local and remote computers.

This is my first attempt at a business network using Linux and have been amazed at the generosity of your community.

What is the best solution for backup and security?

Anything you can recommend will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Just be sure whatever user is using the rsync backup (on local and backup machine) does not have the ability to go root. I would assume for that type of solution one would generate RSA keys.

I'd recommend connecting the two offices using openvpn (ovpn?). Have the router in one of the offices serve VPN and have the other connect through VPN taking the clients out of the picture.

For reliability, I would recommend monitoring using Icinga with (PNP4Nagios or munin).
