All of my systems were fine except those systems running DNS. You aren't running DNS on your Mac or winblows box so they would never see the problem. And I don't mean using NSLOOKUP or querying DNS. I mean running a real DNS server (BIND 9.2.1). And the problem was not just on linux and it wasn't a slow-ness. It was on several different OS/hardware I have running BIND and it was a complete failure on accepting responding packets.. However, if I told all of my systems to use the DI-604 for DNS querries everything was fine. I however can't use a device that has a bug like that so I took it back.
From you original message it sounded like your linux box was running DNS.
Anyway, I changed the firewall out with a Netgear (I won't buy linksys) FVS318 Pro and bam, like old times. Everything halls bits and works great.
When all was said and done, the problem *was* with the DI-604. I spoke with their tech support without success. I tried different distributions, etc. , but no luck. I finally ditched the D-link DI-604 and replaced it with a Netgear and everything runs beautifully. Hopefully this information saves someone else the same headache in the future.
