good one Peter. i am having a similar problem. I enable ip_forwarding by saying YES to "act as a router" on my webmin network configuration/router/gateway page, while I am also using squid on this machine, but my internet is very slow or fluntiate. Please what I am I doing wrong?

any link to asample working config file to do this will be appreciable.

Cheers.

do you mean your internet is very slow if you are using squid? or you have some clients behind the squid server that they are slow while browsing internet? if possible, i recommend shorewall firewall to set up transparent proxying using squid. Shorewall helps to set up masquerading too but shorewall isnt intend for newbie because the setup is quite complicated for beginners..

Usual speed problems with web pages start with slow dns.
Using squid doesn't make it any better as the delay looks worse after caching delays in squid.

Have a look at exactly when/where the delays are..
The status bar in the browser gives a lot of info..
Also try using wget from a command line to get more info about page progress.
