Question Slow Dial Up Internet Connection

Hi.. I'm Running Mandrake Linux 8.2 and my Internet Connection Is quite slow compared to when I run same hardware with Windows

I get average download speeds of 1.3kb/s on linux compared to
4.8kb/s on windows xp when I download from the same server.. (netscape) and many others

what can I do to fix this...

I had to download modem drivers from online as my modem didn't work...
I use
hsfmodem-6.03.00lnxt04032800full_k2.4.18_6mdk-1mdk.i586

What can I do to speed up my connection..... i want to switch from windows to linux completely?

Hi!

As your modem obviously has got a Linux compatible chipset I suggest you try this site
http://www.linmodems.org/ and see if they have got a better driver for nowt - otherwise I'm afraid you'll have to pay for a better modem driver - this might be due to the fact that the manufacturer developed that driver themselves.

Good luck,

Terri
