Question SLIP, rename interface

Running Slackware 9.1

When I recieve a "dial in" connection on my serial port (I'm trying to network 2 laptops via null-modem) it gets an interface name of ppp*. I want to only the outgoing dials to be called ppp* and incomming connections something else (like slip*).

So.. how would I go about renaming a networking interface?

Thanks,
haxcess
