Slackware, Windows xp detecting hardware and ICS?

My parents just bought a new computer thats running windows xp. I have my slackware computer sitting to the right. Since the windows computer is the only one that has an internet connection, i would like to share the connection between the two computers (windows and slack). I installed another ethernet card into my windows computer giving me a total of 2 in the system. I then ran a cable from one ethernet card to the other (from windows to slack). The other ethernet card in my windows system connects to the dsl modem. I have enabled "allow other computers to connect to the internet through this machine" in the advanced tab. But the net on my slack computer still doesnt work. I have a feeling i should get a "new hardware found" alert so i can install my second ethernet card. But i dont. My windows computer doesnt seem to detect it. I was going to move it to another pci slot but now the cable is jammed in the card! damn luck... is there any way i can detect the hardware in a certain pci slot on my windows system? and how do i configure my slackware system to accept the internet connection? PLEASE HELP!

I would REALLY appreciate any help at all! Thanks in advance.

Does Device Manager show two ethernet interfaces on the Windows machine? It's possible that the Windows machine has enough drivers builtin to support the 2nd card without prompting you.

Also, because you didn't mention in your message, I'm guessing that you are not using a crossover cable connect 'windows' to 'slack'. A clear indication of this would be the lack of link lights on both network cards.

After that, you'll need to define the default gateway of the slack machine to point at the internal IP address of the Windows machine.

Good luck.

nope only one ethernet interface in the device manager:
Inter(R) PRO/100 M Network Connection, im using a basic cable (the kind that connects a modem to the ethernet card, ethernet card to ethernet card...ect) to connect the two computers. And im guessint i use netconfigure (i can find the correct command) to define the gateway and internal IP adress?

A cable used to connect a computer to a 'modem' or a hub or switch is called a 'passthrough' cable, whilst a cable to connect a computer to a computer or a switch to a switch is called a 'crossover' cable and are wired differently and are not interchangeable

You will need the correct cable for your application.
