Hi Ive got Slackware 9.1 installed on a p4 desktop.
using this i can connect to the internet with no problems,
I want to use this as a server for my apple ibook which uses OSX.
The problem is the network on slackware appears to work & so does osx.
ive assighned each of them the same subnet mask & an IP number.
but they still cant see each other.
they cant ping each other either how come?
And what can I do to fix this?
Post the details of each box. The IP addresses you've given each one, and their routing tables (hint - route -n), also how are the boxes connected - RJ-45 into a hub/switch?
using rj45 crossover cable, no hub.
linux ip 192.000.000.2 subnetmask 255.255.255.0
osx ip 192.000.000.1 subnetmask 255.255.255.0
no router set for either of them.
i think that slackware may not be actually using the network card, ie it cant get the network card to work.
how do i tell if the network card is working from slackware?
