Slackware 10.2 - Problem using Built-in NIC

Hey there -
I'm brand new to linux and managed to get Slackware installed on my fairly new Dell xps 200. However, im having problems getting connected to the internet. I know my NIC is built into the motherboard, but other than that i have no specs on it. When i run ifconfig i get just the local readout but nothing bout an ethernet so i know its not recognizing my ethernet card. I'm also using the sata.i kernel because of my hard drive... not sure if that mattters? Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What does lspci tell you about the card? If it's a Broadcom BCM5788 like the one in the Dells where I work, the local APIC needs to be disabled in the kernel (or in the kernel boot parameters for your boot loader) for it to work properly. The info here at may help.
