Slack 9.1 Networking issue

I'm a recent emmigrant of FC1 and this is my first experience with anything else besides it. When I had to configure my VIA Rhine II ethernet card on Fedora, it involved nothing at all. I know that setting up my connection on Slack does involve a bit of terminal work, but I don't know where to start.

I've tried a few HOWTO guides to no avail, so I'm asking if anyone can help me out on this one.

Some commands to get you started
ifconfig (will tell you if your nic is up)
ifconfig eth0 up (will bring your nic up)
dhcpcd -r (dhcp will try to pick up an ip)

edit: netconfig (to configure your nic)
