Site not secure.

I have run a HTTP website from a laptop as a server for over 10 years with no site not secure problems until I changed broadband providers. I have a new router that was to configure ETC.. That is now working and when I try is my sight up or down I get its up. Then when I try to view it I get site not secure but when try on my mobile phone I can see it OK so what can be the problem. I have checked the time and date and this is OK.

Far more information is needed.
A certificate can show as "bad" because it expired, because it is for another domain or subdomain or because it is for an entirely different domain or the domain in the certificate does not match the RARP.
Have you tried allowing the "unsafe" certificate then saving it and trying it again?
A lot more information about how this is hosted, who has the DNS records and how the domain works is likely needed.

As far as I know i have never had a certificate. I built the site myself 10 years ago with the help of w3schools and run it from a laptop. I have no other domian or subdomain it has always been a one page site and I use DYNDNS or DNS to get it online and I edit it myself.I have never taken any payment nor is there any facilities to do this. The site is http not https as I have seen it discribed as https since it went wrong. I do not know what RARP is and who has the DNS records I do not know.At first I used Ngnix but now for the last 2 years Apache 2. I have tried to allow it but got nowhere. I thank you for the reply. Hope you can work something out on what I have said.

Do you, perhaps, have something like "HTTPS Everywhere" running on your desktop, then? Can you actually get to your site if you ignore the warnings or tell them to go away, whichever is appropriate?
This looks like a browser expecting HTTPS or expecting a trusted DNS respense and not getting it so warning you about it.

ex-para 01-20-2017 10:05 AM

The only time I get https is when I try to access my site, I tried again to ignor not safe message and came to the router access page. I went into parts I had not seen and under a maintenance tab found
certificates that had https and I could edit it so got rid of the s and saved but I have seen no difference. Before I did this I could put the site name in the top browser bar and see the site but not now as it goes to the router (an HUAEI HG633) I think this router is very new on the market as I had to open port 80 so I asked this question on one of the forems but never got one reply so I had to do trail and error and eventualy got the port opened. Every thing I have mentioned here was not performed on the computer working as the server but another computer. I realise trying to see what might be wrong from what I am telling you must be difficult as I am no expert and I thank you again.

It may be that port forwarding for port 80 isn't configured correctly in your router. You should also set your router so it cannot be configured from the WAN port and so that the router configuration pages are set to HTTPS only.
Edit: you could also try adding :80 at the end of the URL for the website to see whether that gives you the correct page.

ondoho 01-21-2017 04:17 AM

just to be clear:
your site is NOT using https aka SSL?
you are accessing the site with http://somesi.te and NOT https://somesi.te ???
please try to explicitely enter the complete address incl. the http:// bit in the url bar!
you can browse other sites normally on your browser?

ex-para 01-22-2017 06:08 AM

I as you suggested I typed in the full web address using http and I have never used https. The site came up as it has been indexed again being off line for couple of weeks and I clicked on it and it went to the router page and this showing https at the start of the address. I went back to the google page the site was on and being indexed again was cached on the 22.01.2017 and showing the site as it should be.It does seem the problem could be with the router so what do you think. I am using a computer with 16.04 that is rather unstable and among some of the things wrong is the spell check so excuse any mistakes and many thanks for the reply to me,

273 01-22-2017 06:20 AM

When you say you reached a google page, that suggests that your browser didn't find the page and redirected you to google showing that IP address as one of the results, is that correct? I think you need to take another look at your router configuration as I suggested above and ensure you've got port 80 forwarding correctly. You could go to www.grc.com and try "Shields Up" which will tell you your IP address (in case it's changed, if you're on a home router they do sometimes change) and will let you know whether port 80 is open. I tend to use the site when I set up port forwarding on my router to ensure I've done it correctly -- a listening port means your setup is correct.

ex-para 01-22-2017 07:04 AM

Thanks again for replying. By reaching the google page I mean that when I type the address in then click it a google page comes up with the site and information I click this and the site usualy comes up but in this case it goes to the router page. As for the IP I always check it has not changed and port 80 is definitely open. Also I regular go into DYNDS that tells me port 80 is open and if the IP has changed. I tried the Shields Up and part of the message said it was good news. If the router is not configured correctly I realy do not know what to do.

You really need to start to understand what you are doing here. If you're testing your website from within the same LAN then you really should find a machine outside that LAN and try it from the internet.
I made several suggestions about your router configuration and I pointed you to Shields Up so that you could both confirm that your IP address hasn't changed and do a scan to ensure that port 80 is, indeed, listening because your router is configured correctly. If that's going over your head then you need to read up more --please do not host a website without having some knowledge of IP addressing, DNS and port forwarding.

ex-para 01-22-2017 08:04 AM

Whats this all about Mr Smartguy( please do not host a website without having some knowledge of IP addressing, DNS and port forwarding.) I have hosted this website for the last ten years and I have tried smart phones outside of my Lan and the site came up OK.. without some knowledge just how do you think I did it, I ran a export bussiness for 46 years sending used goods in 20ft and 40ft containers to West Africa, Singapore, and Hong Kong with the odds very much against me. Previose to that I was a coalminer and then Paratrooper so just butt out, I WILL find the answer my self wthout clever people like you.

273 01-22-2017 08:26 AM

Apologies for being rude but I made a few suggestions and you didn't reply with the answers. If the site is visible from outside your LAN then at least you know it's working so the issue here is that you're being redirected to the router from inside the LAN hence my suggestion to set the router to HTTPS only.
My rudeness was due to frustration -- I've made suggestions but not seen any evidence of them being followed. The Google page you see is a redirection which, again I mentioned.

ex-para 01-22-2017 10:05 AM

I thank for the apology but when people treat me as thick it goes back to my school days and having a form of dislexia only diagnosed years latler I was classed as a retard. Them days there was no help for such things but I did show a lot of people how to do buisness when I found something I could do and even employed some who had me as thick. Thanks again but I will now sort this out myself.

I guess I really don't get the question. :(
