Simple resolve.conf question (Search Command)

My resolve.conf file looks something like this.

nameserver x.x.x.x

When I attempt to ping, it works fine. When I attempt to ping just computer1, I get the message unknown host. Why isn't the search command appending the domain onto computer1?

I'm running RedHat 9.0 by the way, and I have about 10 hours of Linux experience so far.

Thanks for any help.

Shot in the dark, because what you've got should work, but you call the file resolve.conf - it should be resolv.conf

Heh, that was it... Like I said... 10 hours of Linux so far

when I went to vi resolv.conf, I must have typed in resolve.conf and didn't notice that it just created a new file.

Thanks for your help!
