Share RedHat to NAS (Network attached storage) with NFS
Hi
I need to share files from Redhat 7.3 to NAS (network attached storage)MyBookWorld IILinux base through NFS (network file system). I had read some howto but they have client-server comunication. It's not possible configuring my NAS. Is it possible share Redhat with NAS ? thanks P.s I have shared with samba but it has a limit exceed up to 2GB for my kernel. |
Do you mean that you need to save files from a Red Hat machine to a NAS share?
Does your NAS server offer NFS exports as well as samba? Look at "sudo /usr/sbin/showmount -e <NAS_IP>". |
yes,I want to backup my redhat data to NAS.
RedHat 7.3 does not support command sudo. thanks |
Actually, the showmount command will probably work for a regular user as well even though it is in an sbin/ directory.
RH 7.3 is so old that you are 7 major versions behind. After backing up the files you need you should plan on reinstalling a current version or RHEL or FC or whatever modern disto you need. Even if you don't have sudo, you could use "su" instead to run the command as root. What is the filesystem that the NAS device is using? |
thanks jschiwal !
I'm loged as root since start up. I put this command /usr/sbin/showmount -e 192.168.1.4 (nas IP)The message was mount clntudp_create:RPC:Port mapper failure - RPC:Unable to receive Here is the link that gives info about filesystem : http://www.rrlug.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=51 |
Does this unit have a web interface? If so you may be able to enable nfs. It probably is preconfigured for only smb. Also check what filesystem is uses. If it is fat32 that could be your problem.
Also, if you want to use smb, see if you can mount a share using the "cifs" filesystem. It has better Linux file support. If the filesystem is a Linux type, using cifs you can even use the facls commands. Do you have a link to their manual? |

Its filesystems is ext3. Yes it has a graphical interface where you can not change any permison of sharing, only creating share files... it has a way to hack it but I don't risk. Here is the link of hacking http://martin.hinner.info/mybook/ here is the link of user manual : http://www.wdc.com/en/library/usb/2779-701026.pdf here is the message shell command mount -t cifs //192.168.1.4/public /tmp/andi mount: fs type not supported by kernel facl command not supported your help will be precious |
