setup temporary network with rh9 and winxp

My brother came home for vacation, and we decided that we should connect our computers, as we both have files we want to exchange. He has a windows xp laptop, and I have a rh9 box. We have plenty of ethernet cables, and a switch (with 6 ports, Uplink, and 1-5). Is it possible for me to set up an ftp server on my computer, and have him connect to it? I am on dialup, so i don't know much about networking. Is there any other way for us to transfer files? (I don't have a cd-burner) Thanks.

If you have a network card in each of the machines you an setup a normal network, and run samba on the linux machine, they should then be able to see each other, once its set up goto konquerer and type smb:\\<ipaddress of name of other box>, and your connected. that worked for me on win 98 / RH8, it should be similiar for XP.

someone else will surely have a better answer with better details, but this could help...
