Setup 1 Wireless & 2 LAN with VPN

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone is feeling really kind and wants to take a total noob through this step by step (Using Ubuntu Mate)

I guess, first off is to see if it is possible....

I have 2 Wired connections and 1 wireless & VPN.

What I would like to do is have 1 of the wired connections connect to the internet. The 2nd wired connection shares the internet through the home network.
I want to use the wireless to connect to an access ap to get internet access and enable the vpn on this device so all torrent traffic is routed through this wireless device and I am still able to remote into my normal connection / stream plex via the normal connections outside of home.

The way I have it now is 1 wired connection connects to the internet the other shares through the home network - I can stream plex from outside the home and everything works perfect until the vpn goes on for torrents and then everything stops until I turn the vpn off - this is what I'm trying to get around...

Any advice / assistance would be greatly appreciated!!

I doubt I'll be much help but I am curious to see where this goes. Could you clarify your current setup and desired final configuration? The way I understand it is that you have 3 connections (2 wired, 1 wireless) and you want to enable a VPN on the wireless. How many devices are we talking about and what type are they? Since you're using Ubuntu Mate, I'm guessing it's at least 1 to possibly 3 desktop PCs and/or laptops. For example, one desktop PC wired and one laptop with both wired and wireless. Or is it 2 wired PCs and a wireless laptop? I'm not certain if this information is necessary to solve your problem, but it makes it easier to visualize what's going on. :-)

Sounds like you've already solved the wired connection goals.

I'm confused (I'm easily confused). You are "able to remote into [your] normal connection / stream plex via the normal connections outside of home." connecting from what/where into what/where using what client/protocol? For instance, you can SSH into a wired desktop on your LAN from your wireless laptop on an external public network (ex. Starbucks) using OpenSSH? Or access a video stream the same way using...? etc. Have you changed anything on your router yet (setting up port forwarding for torrents, etc.)?

The more specific you are, the more details you provide about what you have now and what you are trying to do, the more likely it is that you will get help achieving your goals.

Thanks for the reply!

So the attached picture hopefully helps give a little more detail...

As soon as the VPN is connected the server becomes inaccessible outside of the local network because it does not allow any type of port forwarding.
I currently have some programs setup so they will only use the VPN connection otherwise they will just sit there idle waiting for the VPN to connect.

What I'm wanting to do is have the wireless device connect to the Access point which will give it internet access and when the VPN is connected it only changes the routing settings for the wireless card and the two lan cards remain the same.

The way I picture it working is when the vpn is connected is that the current setup (when not connected to vpn) remains intact - so the internet connection is shared throughout the home / devices and streaming plex outside of the home network continues to work.
and the programs that rely on the VPN connection will route all of their traffic through the wireless connection when the vpn is connected.

I hope that makes sense?
