Setting up WINS on Ubuntu

Hey everyone! I was wondering if there was a way to specify a WINS server for one of my ethernet cards. I'm administrating servers all day and it's much easier to type "bart" rather than "bart.vanderbilt.edu". I assume that is WINS that I need.....

Let me know! Thanks!

Doesn't setting the dns search path resolve your problem ?
Do that with whatever GUI your have to config your network or add/change the followin line in /etc/resolv.conf
Code:
search vanderbilt.edu

Using this configuration, is there any reason for me to set up SAMBA to act as a WINS server?
