Question Setting Up Users in APOP

I just configured my Qpopper with this options:

./configure --enable-apop=/etc/pop.auth --with-popuid=bin
--enable-specialauth --enable-servermode

But, when I try to add a user I get :

[root@lnx_drugs bin]# /usr/bin/popauth -init
/usr/bin/popauth: "pop": userid unknown
[root@lnx_drugs bin]# /usr/bin/popauth -user Pete
/usr/bin/popauth: "pop": userid unknown
[root@lnx_drugs bin]#

I had noticed the /etc/pop.auth directory does not exist. the server is running fine , i can log on using telnet on port 110, but, my Eudora software can't because it says the users are not in the database.

Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated.

Hey hubergeek,

you made a statement that you are able to telnet with that user on port 110 succesfully. So that means the mail box does exist on the server then. Try using another mail client then, there might be a type-o or a misconfiguration with the client version in eudora?

But your question answered a previous question I had and Id like to thank you. Hope my suggestions helps in some way or confirms your suspicons

Thanks for responding, I am almost there thank you.

However, the server won't take external connections, (can't logon from Win98 or Win/2000 workstations) I know there's a file somewhere that needs to be modified in order to make the server accept external POP3 connections.

I swear I saw a reply to that problem in the forum but it was a long time ago.

Any Ideas?
