Setting up Server | Behind router

Hi Guys
I have two machines one is a windows and the other a Fedoro Core 2 tagged on to a ADSL 4 port router modem. Both machined currently are set to obtain IP address automatically.

I am intending to setup a small server on my linux machine. Apache is installed and i am able to view the apache default page when i enter 127.0.0.1 in my browser.

I have installed no-ip.com client successfully and seems to running.

I know in order for requests to reach my server, I need to do some settings of port forwarding on the router. The question is how do I do it?

Should I assign a static IP address to the linux machine for this purpose?
Are there any other settings to change?

I am using a Prolink Hurricane 9000P.

Your help is very much appreciated.. pls note am still a newb to Linux

Thankyou

you linux box needs an static IP.
in the router add a rule to forward everything that comes to port 80 to your linux machine 80 port.

Hi,
Ok I put the IP address as 192.168.0.2 and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. Have disable the firewall on linux so that whatever port should be open at the moment.

But I am not able to surf the net..

I added the port 80 and ip address to be forwarded to as seen here : http://www.geocities.com/namvijay/capture.jpg

I would like to ask my router assigns an ip range from 10.0.0.4 to 10.0.0.15..... do i have do change anything?

Please advice
thanks

Hi

You should assign your linux box an IP address starting with 10.X.X - the same as your router!!

Regards
Shelton.
