Setting up router (Linksys WRT54G v5) to connect to internet (SUSE 9.3)
I was previously connecting to the internet via PPPoE. The modem was connected to the onboard ethernet. I have since bought a router and now the modem is connected to the router and the router is connected to the PC via the onboard ethernet.
I am able to access the router and internet when connected via XP. I cannot access either when in Linux. From setting up in Windows I gather that I have to setup the PC to obtain the IP and DNS from the router. How do I configure SUSE to do that? Even when in SUSE I am able to access the router through a laptop using XP. |
login as root
open yast2 networking configure the networkcard: 1. with DHCP or 2. with a static networkadress (in this case you have to give your computer a static networkadress and tell the computer the adress of the router and the DNS-Server). |
I'd done the first option. Then tried to connect to the net using KInternet. Didn't think that it was the router that was connected and so all I needed to do was enter a website. So simple.
