setting up mailserver in mandrake 10

first of all, thanks to all who have created this website, I've been able to find answers here without having to sign up for a while now, and if it werent for this site i dont think id get half the stuff i need to get done, well, done.

but,ive come to a point were im stuck

Ive become familiar with linux and how to use it, and i work for a company who is expanding everyday. We have been using pop3 to get our mail for ages. However, we've expanded into two seprate business, and need the management of a mailserver. Ive used mandrake corprate firewall for to setup a secure connection, and other linux products to create a secure, useful server envionrment for the our clients. however, this mailserver stuff is totall boggeling.
i was wondering if anyone knew of any good, dummy proof walkthroughs or tutorials to help me complete these feats. Ive got mandrake 10 installed on our one of our servers, and im workin on getting all the stuff for our mailserver. I've read through the stuff for postfix, and, well, i have no idea what im doing. If anyone would like to volenteer some help, it would be most appriciated. Linux has saved our company alot of money, and im hoping to avoid having to build an exchange server....

thanks for your help......

Welcome to LQ.

I would reccomend using Qmail for smtp. It is a much more efficient and secure system. There is a good installation guide here:
http://lifewithqmail.org/lwq.html

For mail storage and retrieval I would reccomend using courier-imap which works well with qmail:

If you require web based access too then you really need to go with imap rather than pop to make it useful. SquirrelMail and Horde IMP are both good web based clients. All PC clients such as Mozilla and Outlook will work without a hitch.

A slightly more advanced option (but useful) would be to install openldap and use that for your authentication and corporate address book.
