setting up ipforwarding


people, can anybody help me how and where to write this command, is in the terminal? echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward, see i'am using redhat9 linux distro, and i wanna make my ip is routable, and secondly how to configure the iptables? i wanna make my redhat as my gateway to the internet as its connected to the net using a modem installed, thanks and appreciates for replying peep!!

Just write it down at yours command line and press enter.
After that see whether worked with less /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward.
If there is 1 that's it...

if you want it to be maintained through a reboot yo ould add it to /etc/rc.d/rc.local (this file gets run at start up).

Before you actually do this though it would be a good idea to set up your firewall first. Once you set ip_forward to 1 packets can be sent through your network and if you have no firewall you might get a nasty result.
