Setting up custom rules in SuSEfirewall2 on SuSE 9.1

I have searched some of the posted topics, but I didn't found them very specific with my problem so, I will try to post it separately. My apologies in advance for my impatience. I don't have the time to read all the linux forums on the net and I hope this way someone will help me solve my problem faster...

So, to cut to the chase, my problem is that I want to set some custom rules in that damned firewall...
I run Linux SuSE 9.1 on a Compaq Laptop (1700 series model)
I run it like a standalone workstation. In my work hours I am connecting to my company network through the one and only eth0 available (the laptop has also a dial-up adapter, but I am not using it at all).
I don't need routing, I just want to drop all ICMP echo-replies from outside my trusted network and to close all services, except ssh.

Offcourse, manually it's working just fine, but I got very bored to do the same lines every time I boot up...
iptables -I INPUT -p icmp -j DROP
iptables -I INPUT -p tcp --dport :111 -j DROP (this is just an example, there are some other few ports opened, but when I scan with nmap -P0 localhost - they are reported as filtered.)

I have tried to add some rules in /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2-custom - but those rules of mine have no effect after the bootup sequence. (Offcourse, I have set in /etc/sysconfig/SuSEfirewall2 to FW_CUSTOMRULES = "yes" - to load from custom aditional rules from /etc/sysconfig/scripts/SuSEfirewall2-custom, but still doesn't work.

Where I'm doing wrong ? I am no linux specialist, I am still at the beginning, more a rookie I could say... but I'm not addicted to windows, so... I want to learn... still... the linux is a little more complicated than I imagined at the first glance... I hope my programming knowledges in turbo pascal, c and c++ to be some help for me.
I also hope that someone has a quick reply to solve my problem.
