Setting up an account to allow remote login.

Hey all.

I will firstly explain what I want, and then if people could offer advice on how to acheive this then that would be great.

I have two computers, one a laptop, both have dual boot systems (Win XP / Slackware 10.1 ) & (Win XP / Mandriva 2006, though this may be changing soon).

I put different files on each of the systems, and would like a way of connecting to get files off other system, possibly using SSL and was just wondering if people could give advice?

Thanks in advance.

from easiest to hardest:

You can setup an ftp server on either machine (ftp server on windows XP pro is super easy), then ftp the files.

you can download putty on the windows machine & scp files from linux to windows (pull).

you can setup a samba share in Linux & drag/drop files from either the windows on the linux box.

you can setup the linux box to connect to a windows shared directory using samba.

the "correct" way would be the latter two, especially if you plan on doing this often. If it's just one or two files, setup an ftp server on the windows machine & then move the few files you need & you're done. ncftp is a great command line ftp client for linux.
