Hello everyone. I have a question for anyone that may be able to help. I have a friend that I have converted to Linux (almost) that is having trouble setting up ADSL. I do not have ADSL myself and have not been able to correct the problem. I was hoping that someone here would have some experience. So far this is were we are:
The wizard will not set up the connection. We believe the modem is configured correctly as it was working in windows. BTW, modem is a Alcatel SpeedTouch Home (external not USB).
We also have the network card configure correctly and can connect to the modem at 10.0.0.138 without problems. The problems start when we try to set up a ppp connection via the PPTP interface. If I call it directly with "pptp 10.0.0.138" I get the error from pppd that "/dev/ttya0" is unknown or invalid. I have found no way around this.
A first question is should it even be looking at /dev/ttya0? I am not familiar with the PPPoA/PPTP protocols. A second question would be the packages in Mandrake 9.0. Does anyone know if they are broken? If not, I really need to find someone that is more familiar with setting up ADSL.
If you can help please reply back, or if you need more information I can provide that to. As it is, windows is starting to look more usable, which to me is not a good thing.
Thanks for any help,
PhilD
