setting speed for 3C905B Cyclone

forgive me if this belongs in the newbie section. just installed FC3 and I'm using a 3C905B Cyclone but the card always runs at 10 mbps. How do I make it run at 100 ? Couldn't find anything for speed in the control panels for FC3. DO I need to edit a file ? Thanks for the help.

The speed is set by the rate at which the slowest end of your connection works. If you are plugged into an old ethernet hub then that hub may only be operate at 10M. This all setup with the ethernet protocol. There are no settings for it.

try mii-tool

just wanna give an update on this issue

*i wish more folks would do this. i see so many threads that just trail off into nothing without a resolution*

seems like it was just a bad card. I finally got mii-tool to work and forced the Cyclone card to link at 100 and it wouldnt link up at all.

Then I swapped in a 3C905B Boomerang and it linked at 100 no problem. I couldnt find any known issues with the Cyclone (or any 3COM cards) linking up with Linsys products. but the Boomerang is cruisin at 100 no problem

I use these in two of my machines, great cards.

Yes mii-tool is a nice utility, I had a LinkSys router that had a couple bad ports and would only connect at 10 Base-T FD even though they were 100 Base-T FD by design. A little static shock messed them up. But mii-tool saved the day by allowing me to change the speed of my card so it would connect at 10 instead of 100.
