Setting proxy for shell commands

my isp requires me to use the internet thru a proxy server on port 8080
it is fine when i browse thru mozzilla cuz i just set the proxy there but what about accessin the internet thru shell commands ?

i need to run a few cron jobs that utilize the GET method for a remote server

im using redhat 9

buff, how about google wget + proxy ?
