Set your ip address to some specified ip

Hi
How can I set my public ip address to some specified ip? For instance, I want to set my ip address to 222.222.222.222, then how can I do this?
Regards

You are generally at the mercy of the IP range that your internet service provider has been allocated, and what your ISP will give you.

Locally, you can set up a local area network where your computer's internal IP address is whatever you want. But outside of your LAN, people won't see that IP address as belonging to you. Instead, they will see that IP address as belonging to whatever the internet's routing network forwards those IP packets to. Which won't be your LAN.

Basically, you're asking, "How can I set my public mailing address to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington D.C.?"

You can paint that address on your mailbox if you like, but the postal service won't actually send you any mail addressed to "1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington D.C.", unless you physically move to that address in Washington D.C.

Similarly, you can set your computer's local IP address to whatever you want, but the Internet's routers won't actually send any packets addressed to 222.222.222.222 unless your ISP has been allocated that IP address and it assigns it to you.

If your desired IP address is currently assigned to a particular server out there, and you hack into that server and take over it, then sure. The victim of your hacking may do something about it, though, and you could end up serving hard time in prison.
