set Linux host to use squid proxy for Internet connections

I have a squid proxy set up to filter access to the Internet
and it works well on clients where I have set up the proxy
configuration in the browser.

I want to use this proxy for a Linux host without configuring
any of the apps. Basically I want to take away the gateway
and force all connections to go through the proxy. Is there
any way to do this?

It's called tranparency proxy. Pls google it for more info.

But you can only route traffic according to port (80), not by protocol. So if a webserver is running on port 8000, the client will make direct access to that server, not proxy server.
