Set ETHO in RUNNING mode

Hi all. I have eth0 (internal net) and eth1 (external/internet net). In this moment eth0 is linked with a poweoff wifi AP. Now I need to use vmware (but I don't want to poweron wifi AP) and i have set to use eth0 for the networking, but the network in the guest OS does not work. I have tried with bridge and NAT settings of vmware-config.pl, too.

If I ping from 192.168.0.30 (guest ip) to 192.168.0.1 (ip eth0) I have no response and a tcpdump report me:

arp who-has 192.168.0.1 tell 192.168.0.30

I have see in a second PC (where vmware works) that ifconfig report me a difference in eth0 flags:

* 1st PC (no network): UP BROADCAST MULTICAST
* 2nd PC (yes network) : UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST

How can I set RUNNING the eth0 of my 1st PC without poweron wifi AP ?

A *ifup eth0* does no works and a *ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.1 netmask 255.255.255.0* not works too.

Plz help me.

Tnx. And sorry for my english.

M.

i dont know if this works but man ifconfig does magic..

[-]allmulti
Enable or disable all-multicast mode. If selected, all multicast packets on the network will be received by
the interface.

multicast
Set the multicast flag on the interface. This should not normally be needed as the drivers set the flag cor-
rectly themselves.

these two options are pasted from man ifconfig
try it...
and tell us...

Tnx for the reply but it does not work.

I have poweron the wifi AP and the eth0 goes to RUNNING and vmware-guest network now works. But I don't want to use vmware only when my AP is powered on.

Tnx in advance.
