service named can't stop...


hi there..
i configured the named service in my redhat 9..and every thing going alright but when i tried to stop the service i get a message showing me that the service is still running i tried the command :
#chkconfig named off
and when i issue the command :

#service named ststus

i get the same message ....what i can do to stop the service.....????

what same message? i presume you meant to type "status"? chkconfig will not stop a service, simply not make it start automatically next time. try "/etc/init.d/named stop"
