Ok, right now, I have a handful of Linux boxes that I have setup on a peer to peer network (For me, with what I do, and since its just me, a peer to peer is the best method) and would like to be able to have them mount data shares from one another. Since its just linux, samba isnt the best canidate (it'd work but there are better alternatives), and I'd like to have things be done without having to restart a service when ever a machine connected, rebooted, etc. What would be the best way to have NFS configured for this, or is there a better alternative for a setup like this.
I'd think NFS would be a good option - very easy setup. Alegedly not too secure(I don't know why), but if it's just you, then I'd think it perfect.
I have personally used it a lot at a bluechip banking client of mine who use Soloris all over the place, and the security folk don't seem to mind at all.
NFS would probably be your best option if your just going to be using *NIX. You'd just need to setup the exports (nfs shares) on each box. To connect to the shares you use the mount command. I'll not expound on how to do this as there is a very good faq located here
